I was honored when Tom the fishing guy from This is my blog asked me if I'd be interested in participating in the Head Banger's header contest. The team of Head Bangers are Tom (Fishing Guy), Mac, Tom (another Tom), and Darla. Be sure to check out their great blogs and especially their headers today!
Of course I accepted the offer to participate, you know how I love a good challenge! This week's theme is fungus/mushrooms. This one was a little hard for me since there were no mushrooms in nature that I could find anywhere (not that I looked far and wide), don't know if it has anything to do with our recent freeze in Florida, either way I found myself mushroom-less! Naturally I turned to food to photograph.
Here's where I started - The header photo ...

Then sauteing ...

Last but not least ...
Burgers with Swiss cheese, sauteed onions, crispy bacon, all topped off with those delicious sauteed mushrooms - Yum!Just an FYI for those who know I'm on my health and fitness mission - no burger, no cheese and no bacon for me. Mine was sauteed mushrooms and onions on a whole grain panini - believe it or not I actually prefer it that way!

Martha: That is a cool start for the contest. Too bad you had the cold weather or you could have had some active ones. I really like your hamburger photo.
Hi Martha, you are doing good - what this challenge does is test the mind each week, something different we try and post.
I think that you certainly are on the right tracks, pop and see the others and have a laugh too.
imac.
This is a delightful shot..
I could just eat those now... I hope you have enjoyed taking part.. I have enjoyed visiting here tonight.
Woohoo go you for resisting that burger. I would prefer the panini as well. Melted cheese is totally my thing. Unless it's on a turkey burger...which I actually like more than regular burgers. Go figure.
The burger looks delicious to me - but I'd take the panini version also.
Awesome looking burger. Mushrooms and swiss are a classic that I love.
What did the parsley in Martha's header photo say to the onion?
"There's a fungus among us!"
Awesome header picture....but even more amazing looking is that burger. You have made me hungry!
I wasn't hungry till I saw these pics! Keep strong and steady on your healthy life-mission.
Love the burger - love mushrooms and have a TON of them here!
I think I'll eat my burger like you ... sans the meat!! Yummy looking post though.
yum both ways, Martha, with or without the burger; love the new blog header though :)
betty

Great header photo Martha - you get my vote. I'm with you on the meatless panini :)

Now, you are doing great, I love this post!!
Yummy either way! I like that idea, the header challenge, pretty cute. You could have borrowed mushroom pictures from me.

Thanks everyone!
Chris, you are too funny!
Lisa, Those are just regular inexpensive white mushrooms (or sometimes called button), they are the most common kind sold in grocery stores. You might be thinking about Baby Bellas which are small portabella mushrooms? Either way they are both delicious! :-)
PS - The meatless panini using only mushrooms and onions was so heavenly that I made myself several last week for lunch or dinner! There will be more this week - yummy!
Oh! I so need a trip to Red Robin now!!!
