"Letterboxing is an intriguing pastime combining navigational skills and rubber stamp artistry in a charming "treasure hunt" style outdoor quest. A wide variety of adventures can be found to suit all ages and experience levels."
X marks the spot!
Years ago my daughter (in the photos above) introduced me to Letterboxing. It was a hobby of hers and we just happened to be going somewhere where a box was hidden - Historic Spanish Point in Osprey Florida.
It turned out to be a lot of fun! It felt risky being all sneaky and having lookouts to be sure nobody saw us. Of course we weren't doing a thing that would have got us in any kind of trouble, but it still held that kind of "not getting caught" excitement!
I haven't continued it after that day but I can definitely see why people enjoy playing. It was very popular at one time, I wonder if anyone still plays - anyone else ever heard of it?
Go HERE to read about Letterboxing in North America or HERE for general info. Maybe you will want to join in the Letterboxing fun!
What more do you expect for the letter X?! :-P

A good letter X post, most enjoyable.
Many thanks for your comment.
Yvonne,
That's cool. I never knew, but now I do! Thanks for the tip.
Never heard of this before. I'm intrigued.
I almost did x marks the spot, but I had nothing to mark! good job - that sounds fun, I love a good treasure hunt =)
happy x day!
very cleverly done for the letter X Martha! I never heard of letterboxing; sounds intriguing; I'll have to look that link up!
betty
very interesting sequence of images.
Around here I think its called "geo-caching". I agree...it does look like a lot of fun. I've never done it but would love to get a group together and participate. I can remember in my MUCH younger days, we used to go on scavenger hunts, which were a hoot!
I've never heard of it. Thanks for sharing. Maybe my grandchildren have!
I was wondering what you would do for "X"!
eXcellent post!
Very good letter X. Did you once do an entry about letter boxing or someone in journals? My daughter has done a little geo-whatever its called. I only know the treasure hunts I had for my girl's birthday parties.
I used X Marks the Spot too! Just a bit differently. Great minds think alike :-)
I have never heard of this, but geocaching has risen in popularity. It's pretty much the same thing, but you need a GPS

I've been letterboxing with my girl scout troop - makes for a fun afternoon. Like you, I haven't done it again but can see why people can get hooked ;-)
I had not heard of this, but have heard of geocaching maps - in fact there is one near our property and it drives the dogs crazy when groups are tracking it. :P Love the X!
Sounds really intriguing. GREAT X.
